Flowers For Religious Services

Different flowers may be more appropriate than others depending on the religion or faith of the deceased or the family planning the funeral service.  If you are unsure of the type of service being conducted or the dearly departed’s religious affiliation, contact the family or the funeral home for help.

The following is some basic information on giving flowers for different religious funeral service.

Catholic Service
Flowers are appropriate for these services. However, contact the church where the funeral service will be held for details about what type of flowers may be most appropriate given the space and how best to have them delivered.

Mormon Service
Floral arrangements are appropriate for these services. However, if sending a funeral wreath, make sure it is formed into a circle or heart rather than a cross or crucifix.

Hindu Service
Flowers are appropriate though not entirely necessary in a Hindu service.  Traditional flower arrangements are mixed floral sprays made of seasonal flowers and garlands.

Jewish Service
Fruit or food gifts and baskets are more traditional for showing sympathy than floral arrangements in the Jewish faith.  Orthodox Jews do not have floral decorations at the synagogue where the memorial service is held. However, some newer traditions are having sprays and wreaths at the service.  Check with the family or synagogue if you are unsure abut the appropriateness of sending flowers.
